Louis Barbarin

Louis P. Barbarin joined the Curtis board of trustees in 2021. He is the chief executive officer of MMBB, a nonprofit financial services ministry that provides retirement, disability, personal financial planning, and other benefits to churches and faith-based organizations. Mr. Barbarin descends from a prominent musical family—his great grandfather, Isidore Barbarin (1871–1960), was an important jazz cornet and alto horn player, his grandfather Louis Sr. and great uncle Paul were prominent musicians on the New Orleans Jazz scene. Having toured with Broadway shows such as The Wiz and Bob Fosse’s Dancin’, Mr. Barbarin himself was a professional trombonist before pursuing a career in finance and accounting. He also served in the music ministry at St. Paul’s Baptist Church in West Chester, Pa. where he is an active member. Mr. Barbarin is married to Virginia Barbarin, an award-winning master elementary school educator working in the Downingtown, Pa. area school district and with the SEBA Enrichment Academy, a youth enrichment program for the study of African and African American history and culture. The Barbarins have two children: Louis A. Barbarin and lmani Barbarin, a disability inclusion advocate, public speaker and journalist who has written regularly for Forbes.
