John J. Medveckis
As a businessman, philanthropist, patron of the arts, collector, and amateur historian, Mr. Medveckis actively leverages his professional expertise in support of his passions and the community at large. Born in Latvia and raised in Indianapolis, John Medveckis immigrated to the United States in 1951 and became an American citizen in 1962. He studied architecture and earned his undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Cincinnati. While still in his twenties he co-founded the Economics Club of Indianapolis, the Penrod Society, and the Indiana Repertory Theatre. A former partner in the Philadelphia investment advisory firm of Cooke & Bieler (1973-2021), he spent his career working with prominent high-net-worth families and family offices, both in the United States and in Europe.
In addition to his service as a Curtis Institute of Music Trustee, he currently serves as Honorary Consul for Republic of Latvia in Pennsylvania, is a Trustee for the Philadelphia Museum of Art, is a Fellow at the College of Physicians of Philadelphia and is a member of the Director’s Council of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. Additional volunteer positions include: Board member, Endowment of Diplomatic Reception Rooms, U.S. Department of State; Member, Visiting Committee for Greek and Roman Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art; Finance Committee Member, American Research Center in Egypt; Investment Committee Member, Barnes Foundation. John is a past Senate appointee to the Library of Congress’s Trust Fund Board.
John is the recipient of The Cross of Recognition from the Republic of Latvia and holds an Honorary Degree from the University of Latvia. He was awarded the Marian Angell Godfrey Boyer Medal by the University of Pennsylvania Museum and, in 2023, was selected to receive the Colonial Society of Pennsylvania’s Contemporary Pioneer Award.
