Jasmine Choi (Flute ’04) Appointed to the Faculty of Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music
Acclaimed flutist and Curtis alumna Jasmine Choi (’04) has been appointed to the faculty of Indiana University’s Jacob’s School of Music and will assume her new role beginning on August 1, 2025. Praised as “the goddess of flute” by the Korea Times and “one of best flutists in the history of music,” by Sinfini Magazine, Ms. Choi studied with Jeffrey Khaner at Curtis from 2000–04, before attending the Juilliard School. Prior to embarking on a wildly successful international career as a full-time soloist and Sony Classical recording artist, she served as principal flute of the Vienna Symphony under the baton of Fabio Luisi, and associate principal flute of the Cincinnati Symphony with conductor Paavo Järvi. Ms. Choi was also artist-in-residence of the New York Classical Players for three seasons and served in the same capacity with the Sejong Arts Center for its 40th anniversary year.
Dedicated to cultivating new audiences for classical music, while delving into the limitless potential of the instrument, she has performed with prestigious orchestras worldwide, released numerous acclaimed recordings, and actively promotes music education through her teaching methods (published by the Theodore Presser Company and Seoul Music Publishing), master classes, and popular YouTube channel, which as amassed 30 million views to date. Based in Austria, Ms. Choi is the founder and music director of the Heredium Concert Series and designated ambassador of the Daejeon Culture and Arts Foundation. She will continue to inspire global audiences through her busy concert schedule, digital outreach, and dedication to mentoring the next generation of young artists, both at Indiana University and beyond.
