Relive the excitement of Curtis Symphony Orchestra and Time for Three's October 27 performance at Marian Anderson Hall in photos

On Sunday, October 27, the Curtis Symphony Orchestra opened its 2024–25 series in Marian Anderson Hall at the Kimmel Center with “Prokofiev & Time for Three” under the baton of renowned Finnish conductor Osmo Vänskä. Paying homage to the past while embracing the future, the program featured Jean Sibelius’ patriotic tone poem, Finlandia, plus, a virtuosic performance of renowned Curtis alumna and former faculty member Jennifer Higdon’s bluegrass-tinged Concerto 4-3, with Grammy Award-winning, genre-defying ensemble Time for Three, seamlessly blending classical precision with the fiery energy of a garage band. Sergei Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5 followed, igniting the stage with optimism, tension, and fervor. Composed during the final years of World War II, this masterful work points the way to a radiant, hopeful future as it questions what lies beyond victory.
