Hilary Hahn (’99) Wins Recording of the Year at 2024 Gramophone Awards
Internationally acclaimed violinist Hilary Hahn (’99) who received the 2024 Avery Fisher Prize in January and named Musical America’s 2023 Artist of the Year, received two 2024 Gramophone Awards, a ceremony celebrating recordings, artists, and labels of the past year. Ms. Hahn won Recording of the Year and the Instrumental Award for Eugène Ysaÿe: Six Sonatas for Violin Solo, op. 27. on Deutsche Grammophon. In highlighting Ms. Hahn’s win, Charlotte Gardner of Gramophone magazine noted that she “brings technique and personality to often‑recorded works in electrifying accounts that are set to be a new benchmark.”
In accepting the award in-person, Ms. Hahn said, “I’ve had a summer of recovering from a nerve injury and knowing that people can hear the music when you’re not on stage is so meaningful. Recordings allow people to be heard as musicians, as composers, as performers even when we’re not in the same room.”
She continued: “That connection with the audience becomes very personal as the people listening are choosing to listen and they’re inviting that music into their lives.”
