Studio Recital: Horn Students of Jeffrey Lang and Jennifer Montone
Enjoy a majestic Shakespearean fanfare; sprightly duets from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and one of his successors, Otto Nicolai; and excerpts from J. S. Bach’s monumental Cello Suites arranged for solo horn.
The recital continues with the achingly beautiful Horn Trio in E-flat major by Johannes Brahms, written just after the death of Brahms’s mother. The full horn studio unites for a bombastic finale from Richard Strauss’s Heldenleben. Strauss gleefully admitted that the piece “does have lots of horns, horns being quite the thing to express heroism.” We think you’ll agree!
