Curtis on Tour: Kwan Yi and the Erinys Quartet

Music of Beethoven, Liszt, and Dvořák

Praised for their “superb performances” (The Millbrook Independent), the Erinys Quartet, the Nina von Maltzahn String Quartet-in-Residence at Curtis, takes the stage with Mieczyslaw Munz Prize-winning pianist and alumnus Kwan Yi (’08).

The concert opens with Beethoven’s exhilarating String Quartet in B-flat Major, Op. 18, No. 6, a work of transcendent lyricism and Haydnesque bravado, followed by Liszt’s powerful settings of poet Petrarch’s sonnets 104 and 123. The performance closes with Dvořák’s sublime Piano Quintet No. 2 in A Major Op. 81, written at the height of the young composer’s international fame.

Michelle Cann, originally scheduled to perform, must regrettably withdraw from Sunday’s performance at the Mondavi Center due to personal reasons. Alumnus Kwan Yi will perform with the Erinys Quartet in her place.
