Student Fees

Tuition is free for all students, but there are fees and costs associated with attending Curtis.

All Fees

See the link below for a chart of all fees from prior years and estimated fees for upcoming years.

Annual Fees

Comprehensive Fee
The comprehensive fee of $3,500 is payable by new students upon admission and by returning students at registration. A late surcharge of $100 will be assessed if the comprehensive fee is not paid by registration. This fee covers the cost of Curtis textbooks, use of facilities, security, internet, IT Support, wellness initiatives and services, and recording fees.

Note: This does not include expenses for textbooks for students studying at the University of Pennsylvania. Curtis does not cover transportation costs incurred for attending courses at the University of Pennsylvania.

Health Care Insurance
Curtis requires all students to have adequate health care insurance for twelve months and offers a comprehensive student health insurance policy designed especially for our students. For 2025-26, all students are charged $3,678 for this plan.

Students may request exemption from Curtis’s plan if they have a parental or private health insurance plan that provides adequate protection while they are attending Curtis. To seek an exemption, students must present prior to registration: (a) proof of coverage for the twelve months beginning September 1 and (b) a copy of their plan’s Summary Plan Description (SPD) or Schedule of Benefits that details the actual coverage. The student and parent will be required to sign a release form acknowledging their sole responsibility for any uninsured medical expenses. If, after review, the private plan is found to be inadequate, the student will be advised to enroll in the Curtis plan. If the student still chooses to be exempt from the Curtis plan, the student and parents will be required to sign the release form.

Lenfest Hall Residential and Dining Fees

For 2025-26: All incoming students who were born on or after September 1, 2003 and will hold a high school diploma by September 1, 2025 are required to live in Lenfest Hall during their first two years of study at Curtis.

Students who are 17 years of age and under and pursuing a high school diploma are required to live with a parent or guardian off-campus. Younger students who initially live off-campus with a parent or guardian are required to move into Lenfest Hall at the start of the academic year after they turn 18 or complete their high school diploma, whichever comes first

All other students are strongly encouraged to consider the cost, safety, and convenience of living in Lenfest Hall. Lenfest Hall housing is open to all Curtis enrolled students including upperclassmen, post-bacc, and Master’s students.

Lenfest Hall 2025-26 Room and Board Rates

  • Single Room: $24,882 for the academic year, includes a full meal plan.
  • Double Room: $21,786 for the academic year, includes a full meal plan.

Health Care Insurance: refund determined by third-party provider

Library deposit: $100

Instrument deposit (other than piano): $100

Graduation fee: $125 (payable at the beginning of the spring term for students expecting to graduate at the end of that term; the fee covers the costs of cap and gown rental and related expenses)

Piano Moving and Tuning

Students majoring in piano, organ, harpsichord, composition, or conducting who are lent a Curtis piano must pay a $300 security deposit, the cost of moving the piano from school to their apartment, and the cost of returning the piano to Curtis. The moving expense varies depending on the distance between the apartment and Curtis, plus the degree of difficulty of moving the piano into the apartment. Moving costs approximately $150 to $500 each way.

Curtis will pay for the first piano tuning, but students must cover costs of any additional tuning and repairs.
