Overtones: Fall 2024
In the Fall 2024 issue of Overtones, our feature article explores how the school has forged ties within Philadelphia’s vibrant arts ecosystem over the past century. In our Q+A, we sit down with Grammy-winning alumnus Teddy Abrams (Conducting ’08), music director of the Louisville Orchestra, to talk about building bridges with fiddlers, banjo pickers, and rap artists. We spotlight new concept albums from celebrated alumni and faculty members, and in Sound Off, we speak with five members of the Curtis community about bringing improvisation back to classical music. Opera singer turned content creator Elizabeth Zharoff (’12) discusses her popular YouTube channel, The Charismatic Voice. Acclaimed Curtis composition faculty member Amy Beth Kirsten shares her recent cultural discoveries, and we look back at the history of broadcasting at Curtis.
