Sarah Han’s recital features a variety of works, including Cantilène by Louis Cahuzac, Leonard Bernstein’s Sonata, and Windmann’s Fantasie. It also includes Quintet in B minor by Brahms, which will feature a number of Curtis students and alumni.

About the Performers

Sara Han, from Seoul, entered the Curtis Institute of Music in 2017 and studies with Anthony McGill, principal clarinet of the New York Philharmonic. All students at Curtis receive merit-based, full-tuition scholarships, and Ms. Han is the Ruth and Eugene Helmer Fellow.

Ms. Han is a member of Symphony in C. She has performed with Opera Philadelphia as acting principal clarinet and with the New World Symphony, the New York String Orchestra, and the Juilliard Orchestra. She served as principal clarinet of the National Youth Orchestra in the summers of 2015 and 2016, touring in China, the Netherlands, France, Denmark, and the Czech Republic.

Ms. Han has attended the Aspen Music Festival and School and Music Academy of the West, where she was named a Keston MAX Fellow. Recent competition wins include the 2018 Yamaha Young Performing Artists competition. She has appeared on NPR’s From the Top and as a soloist with the Interlochen Arts Academy Orchestra and the Seoul Romance Orchestra.

Prior to entering Curtis, Ms. Han studied at the Juilliard School and the Interlochen Arts Academy. Her past instructors include Emil Khudyev, Alexander Fiterstein, Stanislav Golovin, and Chulwon Kim.

Zach Hoi Leong Cheong, from Hong Kong and Macau, is a student of Robert McDonald and entered Curtis in 2018.

Karisa Chiu, from Palatine, Ill., is a student of Ida Kavafian and entered Curtis in 2017.

Matthew Christakos, from Toronto, is a student of Gary Hoffman and Peter Wiley, and entered Curtis in 2019.

Emma Carina Meinrenken, from Toronto, is a student of Ida Kavafian and entered Curtis in 2017.
