Joseph P. McGinn

Joseph P. McGinn graduated with a B.A. in history and philosophy from the University of Manitoba and received an M.A. in philosophy from the University of Waterloo before studying as a Commonwealth Scholar at the University of Edinburgh. He completed a Ph.D. at Penn State University with a dissertation addressing the thought of Josiah Royce, Toward a Metaphysics of Community.

Dr. McGinn’s scholarly interests range from idealism and pragmatism to ethics and the philosophy of culture. He has taught at several universities and was professor and director of the global honors program at Lock Haven University before becoming professor and dean of the honors college at Towson University. Most recently he served as vice-president for academic affairs and provost at the University of Maine, Farmington.
