Student Recital: Curtis Composers

  • Mar 30, 2021 @ 12:00 P.M.

Premieres from a new generation of musical voices

This Curtis Composer-Instrumentalist Collaborative concert features five brand new solo works by Curtis composition students. The program begins with February House, a work whose six short movements pay homage to residents of the eponymous artist commune in Brooklyn, New York. Sat in the rain with my croissant expresses a vague, universal kind of nostalgia while Fantasia V engages the soloist in a steady increase of tempo, pitch, dynamics, and rate of change. The aptly-titled Soliloquy asks the trumpeter to “recite” passages from Albert Camus’ The PlagueFour Blurred Walls closes out the program, pitting the bassoonist against an electronics track comprised of the sounds of birds, planes, and a ceiling fan, all recorded from the composer’s bedroom.
