Miguel Harth-Bedoya (Conducting ’91) Named Director of Orchestras and Professor of Conducting at Rice University

Curtis congratulates renowned conductor and Curtis alumnus Miguel Harth-Bedoya (’91) on his appointment as distinguished resident director of orchestras and professor of conducting at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in Houston, Texas. Presently the Mary Franks Thompson Director of Orchestral Studies at Baylor University and Music Director of the Baylor Symphony Orchestra, Mr. Harth-Bedoya will begin his tenure as designate during the 2024–25 academic year, gradually assuming full responsibilities in the subsequent season.

Prior to his time at Baylor, he served as chief conductor of the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and as music director of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, where he now holds the title of music director laureate. Mr. Harth-Bedoya has also held music director positions with the Auckland Philharmonia in New Zealand; the Eugene Symphony in Oregon; the Lima Philharmonic Orchestra in Peru; the New York Youth Symphony at Carnegie Hall; and served as director of orchestral studies at the University of Nebraska, Omaha.
