Curtis’ Centennial Featured in BBC Music Magazine

As Curtis launches its historic 100th anniversary season, the school was prominently featured in the October issue of BBC Music Magazine. Editor Charlotte Smith visited the campus earlier this year to explore the history of Curtis since its founding in 1924 by inspiring philanthropist Mary Louise Curtis Bok. The article—which features interviews with Curtis president and CEO Roberto Díaz (Viola ’84); Nick DiBerardino (Composition ’18), Curtis New Music Ensemble director, acclaimed composer, chair of composition studies, and provost and dean of the conservatory; and viola faculty member Ed Gazouleas (’84)—also highlights the school’s learn-by-doing philosophy, the live audition process, the importance of chamber music and nurturing the composers of tomorrow, and the secrets of its continued success.
