Job Summary

The Rock Resource Center at the Curtis Institute of Music seeks an organized and friendly circulation manager to coordinate library circulation activities, maintain the integrity of the physical collections, and serve as the first point of contact for all library patrons. Reporting to the Director of the Rock Resource Center, the circulation manager works collaboratively with all library staff to provide excellent service to the entire Curtis community and easy access to library collections.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide direct public service at the circulation desk including the circulation of all materials
  • Maintain integrity of physical collections through re-shelving, shelf reading, shifting, and updating stacks signage
  • Provide reference assistance—directional, technical, musical, academic
  • Train and supervise library student workers
  • Coordinate circulation desk staffing schedule
  • Manage library patron accounts
  • Communicate with Curtis community about availability of materials and due dates
  • Open and close Rock Resource Center building
  • Accession all new book and score acquisitions
  • Complete annual inventory projects
  • Coordinate with outside binding contractor on preparation, pick-up, delivery, and inventory

  • Familiarity with Library of Congress call number system
  • Some bending, lifting, carrying, reaching, and pushing of library carts

Required Qualifications

  • Experience working in a library
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a music-related field
  • Experience with integrated library system software (such as Sierra) preferred

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

  • Routine for office environment.
  • Occasional bending, reaching overhead, and pushing of library carts.
  • Occasional light lifting and carrying.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer at the time of hire.
  • COVID-19 vaccination is a requirement for all positions at the Curtis Institute of Music and all new hires are expected to be fully vaccinated before beginning work.

Compensation and Benefits

  • $42,000 – $52,000 commensurate with experience.
