The Concert Production Associate will be a crucial member of the Concert Production team. In the 24-25 academic year, the department will produce 100+ recitals, 50+ masterclasses, three Curtis New Music Ensemble concerts, eight Curtis Symphony Orchestra concerts and runouts, and three Curtis Opera Orchestra productions. 

Working closely with members of the production, media, orchestra, recital, and opera teams, the Concert Production Associate supports the success of Curtis’ recitals and concerts through excellent performance management and communications, and detailed administrative support.

  • Essential Functions

    Key Responsibilities: 

    • Stage managing recitals: 
      • Create production documents for each recital and distribute to media and front of house teams. 
      • Anticipate staging to appropriately plan for performances. 
      • Central communicator during performances for media team, front of house, and musicians. 
      • Ensure performances run smoothly by keeping time, communicating cues clearly, and confidently and creatively problem solving. 
      • Follow and enforce safety protocols when operating piano lift and moving pianos and other large instruments. 
      • Handle every performance with the highest level of professionalism and expertise. 
      • Provide hospitality to guest artists. 
    • Supervise student crew: 
      • Recruit and train student crew members. 
      • Schedule appropriate crew for recitals and masterclasses based on availability and programmatic needs. 
      • Lead the student crew by assigning tasks and directing set-up/strike and stage moves. 
      • Foster a supportive and professional environment around students and guests. 
    • When available, provide production support at orchestra concerts, opera orchestra, and runouts. 
    • Aid in hiring student crew and providing production support when needed for other campus events and summer program performances. 
    • Participate in weekly production meetings. 
    • Administrative support: 
      • Create contracts for guest artists. 
      • Book hotel reservations. 
      • Process payment requests and reimbursements. 
      • Track and reconcile expenses against the production budget. 
      • Generate payroll for student crew. 
      • Maintain performance schedules in OPAS, Asimut, and Outlook. 
      • Communicate program updates as needed. 
      • Regularly review website and other materials for event, performer, and program accuracy, and communicate updates in a timely manner. 
    • Other duties as assigned. 
  • Preferred Experience and Qualifications

    Preferred Qualifications: 

    • Minimum 2 years’ experience in stage management, concert production, technical theatre, or equivalent artistic experience  
    • Superb organizational skills and attention to detail

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Familiarity with classical music a plus

  • Working Conditions and Physical Demands
    • This position is located in Philadelphia, PA, and requires a regular presence on campus. Work from home may be available on an occasional basis.
    • Night and weekend work will be required, especially during concert weeks. 
    • Able to lift, carry, push, pull, and/or move up to 50 lbs
    • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer at the time of hire. 
    • COVID-19 vaccination is a requirement for all positions at the Curtis Institute of Music and all new hires are expected to be fully vaccinated before beginning work. 
    • The final candidate will be required to successfully pass a background check and obtain PA Act 153 clearances.
  • Compensation and Benefits
    • Gross annual salary for this position is $45,000.
