“Come and I will play you a cycle of terrifying songs. They have cost me more effort than any of my others.” With these words, Franz Schubert introduced the world to Winterreise, one of his final and greatest musical testaments. Hear bass Evan Gray perform this monumental song cycle in its entirety. This affecting tale of heartbreak and solitude contains some of Schubert’s most beautiful and powerful songs.
Schubert penned the twenty-four song Winterreise in the final year of his life. As Schubert’s own light faded, he composed this staggering tale of one man’s night journey of love, loss, and loneliness. Join us for what one contemporary reviewer lauded as a voyage “through the immeasurable depth of the human heart.”
