About
Lullaby-Nocturne began its life as a gently rocking melody composed for twins Sivan Wu and Cyrus Ma, whose mother used the song to lull her newborn children regularly to sleep. When I later added a more complex harmonization to the simple tune, it seemed to bring out the sense of longing and nostalgia that one finds in lullabies from around the world. A second, contrasting musical idea expanded the work’s emotional range, and eventually, the little piece seemed to fly up into the nighttime cosmos, giving rise to the second half of its title.
