Curtis at Longwood Gardens presents THE SOLDIER’S TALE
Through music and narration, Stravinsky’s whimsical L’Histoire du soldat (The Soldier’s Tale) spins the Russian folk tale of a soldier who trades his fiddle to the devil and soon regrets it. The performance will take place in Longwood’s famed conservatory amongst thousands of blooming chrysanthemums.

Guest Recital: Mark O'Connor, violin
Violinist and composer Mark O’Connor, in residence this week at Curtis, is widely recognized as one of the brightest talents of his generation. According to the New York Times, Mr. O’Connor has experienced “one of the most spectacular journeys in recent American music,” embracing country fiddling, jazz, and classical traditions in unique compositions and improvisations. His free recital is co-sponsored by the Mark O’Connor String Camp. |

Everyone’s out to get Don Giovanni, whose romantic charm has seduced innumerable women, and whose libertine lifestyle has fueled jealousy and hatred. Donna Elvira hunts the lover who deceived her. Masetto guards his fiancée. Donna Anna vows vengeance for her father’s murder. And the stone statue of the dead Commendatore has its own mission.
Fully staged production with the Curtis Symphony Orchestra, sung in the original Italian with English supertitles.

Alumni Recital Series
Jennifer Koh, violin ('02) and Ieva Jokubaviciute, piano ('00)
Jennifer Koh and Ieva Jokubaviciute present a duo recital of works by Bach, Brahms, and Bartók. Since she came to international attention in 1994 as winner of the top prize at the Tchaikovsky Competition, Jennifer Koh (’02) has performed as guest soloist with many of the world’s leading orchestras, including the Philadelphia and Cleveland orchestras; the Chicago, Saint Louis, and Detroit symphonies; and the New York, Czech, and Helsinki philharmonics, among others. A 2006 Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship recipient, Lithuanian pianist Ieva Jokubaviciute (’00) made her Chicago Symphony debut in 2005 under the baton of James Conlon. She has toured with Musicians from Marlboro, is a member of Trio Cavatina, and has appeared in solo recitals in Boston; Washington, D.C.; and Vilnius, Lithuania.
