Curtis Housing Program 2009-10

Currently thirteen two-bedroom apartments are available to lease through Curtis. Priority consideration is given to newly admitted students for their first year of enrollment. The apartments are located within three blocks of the school. The apartments are not furnished, and students are responsible for paying for all utilities.

Curtis seeks to accommodate student housing requests as quickly as possible. Requests usually exceed apartment availability, so it is very important that you request housing early, preferably immediately upon formally accepting admission. The school cannot guarantee Curtis housing to any student. A deposit of $200, along with your application for housing, must be received in order to hold your apartment.

Assignments and Roommates
Roommates in Curtis-sponsored apartments are same-sex. Curtis will try to match roommates based on preferences indicated on the housing questionnaire.

If you are interested in having a specific student as your roommate, submit your application as early as possible, along with the housing questionnaire. Every effort will be made to accommodate roommate requests.

Highest priority for apartments is given to entering first-year students who meet admissions and housing deadlines. After the housing deadline, leases for any remaining apartments will be extended to interested returning students.

The Office of Student Services will keep you informed about the status of your housing request. Please read your e-mail regularly, and respond to all requests promptly.

Apartment Information
Some apartments have wall-to-wall carpeting and others have hardwood floors. All apartments are unfurnished and come equipped with central air conditioning. Some apartments have two bathrooms. The kitchen has a full-sized refrigerator, range/oven, sink with disposal, and cabinets. You will need to provide dishes, pots and pans, and cooking and eating utensils. It is helpful to coordinate with your roommate what items each of you will bring to avoid duplication and unnecessary expense.

The apartments have wireless Internet access and cable TV connections. You will be responsible for these charges if you choose to use these services. Coin-operated washers and dryers are usually located in the basement of each building.

Curtis does not provide parking to students and recommends that students not bring automobiles to school. All students who wish to bring a car must make arrangements on their own with local garages. Parking fees are quite high for long-term parking.

Renowned Pianist
Leon McCawley
in Recital At Curtis March 16

Pianist Leon McCawley celebrates two milestone anniversaries, Samuel Barber's centenary and Chopin's bicentenary, with a free recital at the Curtis Institute of Music on Tuesday, March 16 at 8 p.m. The performance is free and no tickets are required.

His program traces Chopin's distinct influence on Barber's piano writing, while highlighting both composers' keen interest in the musical styles and idioms of their homelands and their respect for classical forms and structures.
